Women’s health physiotherapy in Hackney

Pregnancy, postnatal & pelvic health physiotherapy

Stay active during pregnancy, rebuild strength after birth and return confidently to running, the gym and the exercise you enjoy. Specialist support is also available for prolapse, incontinence and leaking during exercise.

Pregnancy

Keep moving and training as your body changes

Pregnancy does not automatically mean giving up the gym, strength training or the activities you enjoy.

Sangita provides pregnancy physiotherapy and trimester-specific exercise guidance, adapting load, position and intensity as your body changes so you can continue exercising with greater confidence.

Postnatal recovery

Build strength and return to exercise progressively

Returning to exercise after birth is individual. Your starting point, symptoms, strength and goals all matter.

Postnatal physiotherapy provides a structured, graded pathway back to the gym, running, sport or whichever activities matter to you, whether you are six weeks or several years postpartum.

How Sangita can help

Women’s health and pelvic health physiotherapy built around movement

Treatment is practical and exercise-focused, helping you understand your body, manage symptoms and build towards the activities you want to do.

Pregnancy & postnatal

Pregnancy and postnatal physiotherapy

Support for staying active during pregnancy, adapting exercise through each trimester and rebuilding strength and confidence after birth.

Running & training

Postnatal return to running

A progressive return to running based on your recovery, symptoms, strength and current capacity rather than simply reaching a particular date after birth.

Strength & fitness

Postnatal return to exercise

Structured rehabilitation for returning to strength training, gym sessions, classes, sport and other exercise at a level that suits you.

Pelvic health

Prolapse and exercise

Exercise support for women managing prolapse symptoms, with guidance around pelvic floor function, technique, load management and appropriate progression.

Pelvic health

Incontinence and exercise

Practical support if bladder symptoms are affecting your confidence when exercising, lifting or taking part in higher-impact activity.

Running, jumping & lifting

Leaking during exercise

If you experience leaking when running, lifting, coughing, laughing or during other exercise, Sangita can assess what is happening and build practical strategies into your training.

Gym-based rehabilitation

Real strength training, adapted to you

Women’s health physiotherapy does not have to mean being told to stop training or being given only gentle exercises.

Where appropriate, sessions can include real strength training such as squats, deadlifts, pressing and pulling, with technique, breathing, bracing and load adapted to your body and symptoms.

Individual approach

Expert care combined with practical coaching

Generic exercise advice is not always suitable during pregnancy, postnatal recovery or when managing pelvic floor symptoms.

Sangita combines physiotherapy assessment with practical exercise coaching so your plan reflects your body, symptoms, goals and the activities you actually want to do.

What to expect

A clear assessment and a plan built around your goals

Your rehabilitation develops as your strength, confidence and capacity improve.

01

Initial assessment

Understand your history, symptoms and goals

Your first appointment starts with understanding what is happening now, what activities you are doing and what you would like to work towards.

02

Movement

Assess how your body is working

Assessment may include movement, core function, breathing and the way your body responds to the exercises or activities relevant to you.

03

Your programme

Build an individual plan

Your plan can cover exercise selection, technique, pelvic floor strategies, appropriate loading and progression towards your goals.

04

Progress

Get stronger and build confidence

Your programme is reviewed and progressed as you become stronger and more confident, rather than leaving you with a static list of exercises.

A different approach

A better answer than “don’t run” or “avoid the gym”

Pelvic health symptoms can make exercise feel uncertain. The aim is to understand what your body needs and find practical ways to keep moving, rather than unnecessarily removing the activities you enjoy.

Pelvic floor assessment

What if further assessment is needed?

If an internal pelvic floor assessment is appropriate, Sangita can organise an appointment for this as part of your wider pelvic health care.

Frequently asked questions

Women’s health physiotherapy FAQ

A few common questions about pregnancy, postnatal exercise and pelvic health physiotherapy.

Can I continue exercising during pregnancy?

For many women, exercise can continue during pregnancy with appropriate adjustments. Sangita can help adapt exercise selection, load, position and intensity as your body changes through each trimester.

When can I return to running after having a baby?

There is no single programme that suits everyone. Your return should take account of your recovery, symptoms, strength, current activity and goals. Sangita can build a structured, graded pathway back to running.

Is postnatal physiotherapy only useful soon after birth?

No. Whether you are six weeks or several years postpartum, it is not too late to work on strength, confidence and a progressive return to exercise.

Can I exercise if I have prolapse?

Having prolapse symptoms does not automatically mean giving up exercise. Your programme can include pelvic floor coaching, load management, technique changes and gradual progression according to your individual symptoms and goals.

What if I leak when running or lifting?

Leaking with running, lifting, coughing, laughing or other activities can be assessed. Treatment may include pelvic floor exercise coaching, breathing and pressure management, technique coaching and appropriate exercise progression.

Do I have to stop lifting weights?

Not necessarily. Where appropriate, Sangita can help you continue or return to strength training, including exercises such as squats, deadlifts, pressing and pulling, with adjustments based on your body and symptoms.
